Should the city of Pripyat be saved?:

Leaders of G -8 will hold the first event for the disposal of Chernobyl.

Leaders of Group of Eight pledged to hold the first event associated with the relocation of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in safe condition, during the year. This was reported in a special section of the final summit declaration, which takes place in the Japanese city of Toyako in Hokkaido.

"We reaffirm the commitments on Chernobyl, adopted at the previous summit, and agreed to jointly organize a related event in 2008" - written in the document.
In the same statement the leaders of the Group of Eight "acknowledged" the inalienable right of all parties to the non-proliferation regime to the peaceful use of nuclear energy in accordance with the obligations under the Treaty (of the Non-Proliferation of Nuclear Weapons). «
"Eight" also stated that it supported "the highest standards of nuclear non-proliferation, safety and security, including the IAEA Additional Protocol." "In this context, - indicated in the statement - we welcome the various initiatives in the area of multilateral efforts in the field of nuclear fuel cycle and ensure the safety of delivery of nuclear fuel."
