Belarus, Ukraine presidents in long negotiations

The one-on-one meeting of President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko and President of Ukraine Viktor Yushchenko has continued for more than three hours already. The negotiations are focused on the development of the trade and economic cooperation between the two countries and the preservation of the positive changes. Cooperation in power engineering and border affairs is also discussed.

After the negotiations the sides are supposed to ink several documents, in particular, a memorandum on cooperation in power engineering, a Belarusian-Ukrainian consular convention, a memorandum between the governments and the national banks of Belarus and Ukraine on working out a system of measures to step up the bilateral trade and economic cooperation in view of the global financial and economic crisis, an intergovernmental agreement on simplified passage procedures of the Belarusian section of the motorway Slavutich — the Chernobyl nuclear power plant for personnel, transport vehicles and cargoes of the power plant and companies, which operate in the alienation zone, as well as foreign specialists involved in international projects relating to the power plant shutdown, and a protocol to the agreement.
