Vector map of town Pripyat. The first vector map variant of town Pripyat is ready. Performed in Corel Draw 12 (because of inability to work in other programs)…To look in format PDF, it can bee viewed with a help of Acrobat Reader, which I hope everybody has or can get for free.
The usage of vector format for a map is useful because it lets scale it (enlarge districts without a loss of information), and it takes less place when there are a lot of information.
Numbers of houses and other information is written on the houses and can be seen only if enlarged. It causes some inconveniences, for example while printing in format A3 the number of houses can’t be seen for sure, but there will not be a mix of inscriptions on the map.
In initial material the background, houses, roads, net, information are pictured in different layers, that is why if necessary it won’t be difficult to enlarge the size of type and make the type version.
The map was created on the basis of the last version of Water-а map (file 575_3.jpg).My thanks to that man, who has never been in the town and was guided by an element of maps, could substantially correct the first variant of the scheme and practically recreate the map! It can be said that it was too much easier for me; not looking at Chernobyl syndrome, I still remember something.
Drawing different districts I tried to compare with photos I have to make fewer mistakes. Those buildings of photos I didn’t have, I marked red.
In future I plan to create a series of photos I used and put a links on the map to them, maybe to create an indexation system of Pripyat photos (points and directions of shooting)
Generally speaking, the work is at the beginning. I am to put the numbers of houses and I hope for the help of forum’s visitors.
In the future I plan to draw the roads more detailed, including foot roads. Besides a frame of reference of the new map differs from the old one, cells in a new one is bigger (I was afraid to make smaller, though had to, I suppose), you could also use all position data when pointing remarks, but please indicate – old or new map.
All the remarks will be included in time; at the same time the version and number of the map will be also changed to avoid confusion. The version number I offer to put by the date of correction. Once more I hope for cooperation of all forums’ visitors.
