Gas masks... For what?

Like gas masks would help. I remember when I was little, maybe the 4th grade, during the Cold War, when our countries (me in US, you in USSR) were building up our nuclear weapons. In my school they taught us to "Duck and Cover"--if we got hit with the bomb we were supposed to push our desks up against the windows and then sit under our desks. This, they said, would keep us safe from the bombs. That would have been as helpful as these gas masks.

А ведь это моя родная школа, в которой я проучилась с 1-го по 10-й класс. И это мой однокласник - Вадик Витвицкий.
